What if he’d left with his pack and an empty promise of return to Carl and Rick as soon as Lori spoke aloud her grievances? He may have charged in and chopped off the head of one of the undead before it could take out one of the governors men, and was led into this strange safe haven as an act of thanks?

This is an AU Shane that branches away from canon sometime before the culmination of the whole Randy debacle and the episode Better Angels. Where he makes it to Woodbury and Rick's hallucination in the town wasn’t just his mind playing tricks (course this means he didn’t get shot in the face either). But as that stands Shane is also canon compliment up to Better Angels and beyond (ha).
